About Domaine de Courances

Famous the world over among garden lovers, the Domaine de Courances is located in the heart of the Gâtinais region, 50 km from the capital. Château de Courances, built between 1622 and 1630 by Claude I Gallard, is an architectural gem surrounded by a park. Originally a simple manor house acquired in 1552 by Cosme Clausse, it was gradually transformed thanks to innovative hydraulic features such as the Grand Canal and the Dôme. After a period of neglect in the 19th century, it was restored in 1872 by Baron Samuel de Haber, who commissioned the architect Hyppolite Destailleur. This restoration added emblematic features such as the horseshoe staircase inspired by Fontainebleau and the red brick facades, typical of the Louis XIII style. At the Domaine de Courances, the park, the château, the mill and the surrounding wall are listed historic monuments.

The castle is a private property but can be visited during the weekend and public holidays. A visit will be organised for students. The Academy is taking place in the farmhouse of the castle.
